Dr Harvinder Singh Dhaliwal, a horticulture scientist and former Dean of the College of Agriculture, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The decision was taken at a meeting of PAU's Board of Management in Chandigarh, according to reports. He takes charge as Punjab tries to move away from its long-running wheat-paddy cycle amid falling groundwater and thinning farm profits.
Who is Dr Harvinder Singh Dhaliwal?
Born in Mansa, he earned a BSc Agriculture (Honours) from PAU in 1984, an MSc in Pomology in 1986 and a PhD in Pomology in 1991, and won the Sardar Bahadur Lal Singh Gold Medal for topping his MSc. At PAU he has served as Dean of the College of Agriculture, Additional Director of Research (Horticulture) and Director of Extension Education. Punjabi Jagran puts his experience at about 31 years.

ਡਾ. ਸਤਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੋਸਲ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਲ 18 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਸ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਜ਼ਮਰ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ।
