Strong winds uprooted large trees on the Tanda-Dasuya route, and traffic on the link road joining Tanda and Hoshiarpur was stalled for about three hours.

According to the Meteorological Centre Chandigarh, maximum temperatures fell by an average of 1.8 degrees Celsius across the state. Hoshiarpur saw the sharpest drop of 4.5 degrees, to 30.3 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda stayed the hottest at 36.1 degrees Celsius.

Punjabi Tribune said paddy lying in the open in grain markets also got wet, and that the rain has disturbed harvesting. Farmers fear that if heavier rain follows, standing crops could lie flat, which would directly cut the yield.

The wet weather arrives just as paddy is pouring into mandis. Food Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Thursday that 8.50 lakh tonnes of paddy had reached mandis, of which 7.50 lakh tonnes had been procured, as reported by Dainik Savera Times.
