The Consulate General of India in Toronto will hold consular camps at 15 venues across Canada from 1 to 29 November 2026, and one of them is a Brampton temple that was attacked at a similar event two years ago, Hindustan Times reported.

Where and when

The consulate says the camps will cover Scarborough and Etobicoke in Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville, Kitchener, London, Niagara Falls and Windsor in Ontario, Winnipeg in Manitoba and Halifax in Nova Scotia. The venues include nine temples, a gurdwara and a church. Punjabi Tribune reports Winnipeg will host two camps: 7 November at the South Sikh Centre and 8 November at the Hindu Temple and Dr. Raj Pandey Hindu Centre, both from 10 am to 2:30 pm.

Hindu Sabha Mandir returns

Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, which opted out of hosting a camp last year, is listed for 15 November. India cancelled camps after the 3 November 2024 attack at the temple, when protesters with Khalistan flags clashed with worshippers. Hindustan Times says there were protests outside camp venues last year too, but without disruption or violence.

Life certificates and documents

The main purpose is to let pensioners get life certificates and to help with other consular matters without travelling to Toronto. Punjabi Tribune reports applicants must attend in person with the form filled in two copies, an original valid Indian passport, Canadian passport or OCI card, and photocopies of its first and last pages. There is no fee for a pension life certificate. If someone cannot attend for medical reasons, a person bringing the application must arrange a video call for verification.

SFJ objects

The pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice wrote on 21 October to Canada's public safety and justice ministers, ETV Bharat reported, arguing the camps could be used for surveillance and intelligence gathering, which India denies doing. Its general counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has sought written security assurance from Ottawa for the 15 November camp and said supporters would protest. These are the group's claims.
