At least 10 private schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threat emails on Wednesday, October 7, and the same message also named two upcoming concerts by Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh. Police and bomb-disposal teams searched the campuses and found nothing suspicious, and officials described the threats as a hoax.

The sender claimed to be linked to a group calling itself the "Khalistan National Army", according to a PTI report based on sources. The email warned of blasts at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on November 1 and at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on November 21, the dates of Dosanjh's shows at those venues, and urged people not to attend them.

What did the emails say?

ETV Bharat reported that the messages arrived around 11:11 am and carried pro-Khalistan slogans. The sender addressed parents and asked them not to send their children to Dosanjh's stadium shows. The New Indian Express reported that the schools were told they would be blown up at 11.11 am, and that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation office got a separate email naming 1.11 pm.

Schools named in reports include Zydus School in Vejalpur, Bodakdev School for Children, SGVP School in Chharodi, Sant Kabir School, Asia School on Drive-in Road and HBK School in Memnagar.

How did police and schools respond?

Police, fire crews, bomb-detection squads and dog squads went to the campuses, and several schools sent students home early as parents rushed to collect them. District Education Officer Rohit Chaudhary told schools to inform their local police stations and evacuate students in an orderly way, the New Indian Express reported.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Shivam Verma said teams searched the schools thoroughly and found nothing suspicious. He added that several schools, courts and other establishments in Ahmedabad had received similar hoax threats in the recent past.

What happened at Narendra Modi Stadium?

Sportstar reported that the stadium also received the email while India U-19 and Australia U-19 teams were on the premises for a multi-day match. Both sides left after 1 pm under protocol. Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel told the outlet that such threats had come before, including during the 2023 World Cup and the IPL, and local police later confirmed this one was a hoax.

Was Punjab targeted too?

ETV Bharat reported a similar email at Sacred Heart School in Ludhiana that warned students against attending Dosanjh's Delhi concert and spoke of blasts at several local institutions. The claims in the email are unverified allegations by an anonymous sender, and police have not publicly identified who is behind them. Dosanjh's tour is due to cover Delhi, Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh, and police have stepped up security at the venues, ETV Bharat said.
