Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a 14 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Bardwal village near Dhuri in Sangrur district. The canal-water project costs Rs 47.38 crore.
The plant will treat canal water so it is fit to drink. According to the Tribune, around 85,000 residents of Dhuri are expected to benefit once it is complete.
What will the Dhuri plant do?
Mann said the canal-water-based supply scheme will give the city clean, safe drinking water and cut reliance on groundwater. He described clean water as a basic right and said contaminated water is the root cause of many serious diseases, with women and children set to gain most.
What did Mann say about canal water?
The chief minister claimed canal water's share in irrigation has gone from 22 per cent to 88 per cent in four years, with about 14,000 km of pipelines laid. He said paddy yields have risen by up to four quintals an acre where canal supply improved. These are his own figures, given at the event.
Lal Dora registrations
Mann also announced that registration of land inside the Lal Dora, the old village habitation zone, begins from Wednesday so residents can get permanent ownership of their homes.
Dhuri and the chief minister
Dhuri is Mann's home constituency. He said he has a special attachment to the town and promised bigger development projects there. At the same event, he also called the CBI raids in Punjab a result of political frustration, a charge covered separately on Jugti.

ਧੂਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਪਲਾਂਟ ਕੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ?
ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਨਹਿਰੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਇਹ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼, ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਪਾਣੀ 'ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਰਤਾ ਘਟਾਏਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਦਾ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਹੱਕ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੂਸ਼ਿਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਈ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਨਹਿਰੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਿਹਾ?
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੰਜਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹਿਰੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ 22 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਧ ਕੇ 88 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 14,000 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਪਾਈਪਲਾਈਨ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਨਹਿਰੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਧਿਆ, ਉੱਥੇ ਝੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਝਾੜ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਏਕੜ ਚਾਰ ਕੁਇੰਟਲ ਤੱਕ ਵਧਿਆ। ਇਹ ਅੰਕੜੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਲਾਲ ਡੋਰੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਜਿਸਟਰੀਆਂ
ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਲਾਲ ਡੋਰੇ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੀ ਰਜਿਸਟਰੀ ਦਾ ਅਮਲ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੱਕੀ ਮਾਲਕੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੇ।

ਧੂਰੀ ਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਲਗਾਅ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੱਡੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਲਿਆਂਦੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਇਸੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ.ਬੀ.ਆਈ. ਛਾਪਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਬੁਖਲਾਹਟ ਦਾ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ।
