Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled two separate illegal arms supply networks, arresting four people, including two juveniles, and recovering 16 sophisticated pistols, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Monday, October 26. Police said the arrested accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who facilitated the illegal arms consignments, and that the weapons were being supplied onward to criminal elements through an organised distribution network.

What was recovered in the two operations?

The 16 pistols recovered include three 9mm Glock pistols, one .30 bore pistol made in China, one .30 bore X-Shot pistol, one .30 bore PX-5 Storm pistol, nine other .30 bore pistols and one country-made .32 bore pistol. Police also recovered seven live cartridges and impounded a Honda Activa scooter that was allegedly being used to move the weapons.

How did the first operation unfold?

Commissioner of Police Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said that, acting on precise intelligence inputs about weapons movement, a police team intercepted a juvenile who was riding the Activa scooter within the jurisdiction of Police Station Cantonment. Six pistols and seven live cartridges were recovered from him, the CP said.

What happened in the second operation?

In the second operation, police teams from Police Station Gate Hakima apprehended Anmol Singh alias Mohla along with his juvenile associate and recovered five .30 bore pistols from them. During the investigation that followed, and on the basis of disclosures made by the two, police arrested another accomplice, Hardeep Singh alias Shiv, and recovered a further cache of five pistols, taking the recovery in this operation to 10 pistols.

Who are the arrested accused?

The two named accused are Anmol Singh alias Mohla, 19, a resident of village Naushehra Dhalla in Tarn Taran district, and Hardeep Singh alias Shiv, 18, a resident of village Chella in Tarn Taran district. The other two accused are juveniles, whose names have not been released. Police have not alleged any other arrests in the two cases so far.
