Early life

Tania was born on 6 May 1993 in Jamshedpur, Bihar (now Jharkhand), to Punjabi parents, and was brought up in Amritsar, Punjab. She has a younger sister, Tamannah. She studied at Guru Nanak Dev University and BBK DAV College for Women in Amritsar, winning 'Best Actor of the Year' every year from 2012 to 2016, and completed a bachelor's in design and a postgraduate degree in project management. She is also a trained classical dancer who has competed at national level. Her parents wanted her to become a doctor — she studied medicine in Class 12 — and she won them over to acting only after topping her university with 98 per cent in post-graduation.

Jamshedpur to Amritsar is a long journey, and Tania made it as a child when her Punjabi parents brought the family to Punjab. Amritsar shaped her: the city's theatre culture, Guru Nanak Dev University's stages, and four straight years of 'Best Actor of the Year' awards from 2012 to 2016. Her parents' condition — excel at studies if you want to act — produced a university topper with 98 per cent in post-graduation, and her classical dance training gave her a performer's discipline.

Career

Tania was cast as Sarabjit's daughter in the 2016 Bollywood film Sarabjit but had to give up the role when filming clashed with her final exams. Her first film role was in Son of Manjeet Singh, though it released after Qismat (2018), where she played Aman opposite Ammy Virk. The performance won her Best Supporting Actress at the Brit Asia TV Awards and made her a name to watch.

She stepped up to leading roles with Sufna (2020), playing Teg opposite Ammy Virk, and has since appeared in Guddiyan Patole, Rabb Da Radio 2, Lekh, Mitran Da Naa Chalda and Godday Godday Chaa. Nominated twice at the Brit Asia TV Awards, she is counted among the most promising actresses of her generation in Punjabi cinema.

Losing the Sarabjit role to exam dates could have broken a lesser resolve; instead Tania's patience paid off with Qismat (2018). As Aman opposite Ammy Virk, she brought a freshness that audiences loved and critics noticed — the Brit Asia Best Supporting Actress award was the industry's acknowledgment. Son of Manjeet Singh, filmed earlier but released later, showed the range was there from the start.

Sufna (2020) was the graduation: a leading role as Teg, carrying a romantic drama opposite Ammy Virk, and she carried it. Guddiyan Patole, Rabb Da Radio 2, Lekh, Mitran Da Naa Chalda and Godday Godday Chaa have kept her among the busiest young actresses in Punjabi cinema.

Personal life

Tania is based between Amritsar and Mumbai and keeps her personal life out of the spotlight.

Tania remains close to her family in Amritsar, including her younger sister Tamannah, and splits her time between Punjab and Mumbai for work.

Legacy

In a short career, Tania has moved from a breakout supporting turn to leading-lady status, bringing a classical dancer's discipline and a university topper's work ethic to Punjabi films.

Still early in her career, Tania represents the new Punjabi heroine: educated, trained, and ambitious — proof that the industry now has room for actresses who arrive with degrees as well as dreams.
