Where is Ghagwal?

Ghagwal is a village of Mukerian tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031107, and it covers 280 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,798 people in Ghagwal: 886 men and 912 women, living in 403 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 280 hectares, the population density works out to about 642 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1029 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 185, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 376 people, about 21 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
