Where is Mohri Chak?

Mohri Chak is a village in Mukerian tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and is served by the Mohri--Chak gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031188, and it covers 144 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 630 people in Mohri Chak: 324 men and 306 women, living in 125 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 144 hectares, the population density works out to about 438 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 944 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 83, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 141 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 88.12 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 89.61 per cent and women at 86.57 per cent. The census recorded 210 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 107 main workers, the largest group, 59, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 45 other workers in trade, transport and services and 3 agricultural labourers. A further 103 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (85 hectares). About 23 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 68 cultivators and 10 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

Neighbouring villages include Dhamian, Bhalowal, Bariah and Sandhwal.
