Where is Nangal Khanauran?

Nangal Khanauran is a village in Mukerian tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 22 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Talwara community development block and is served by the Nangal--Khanauran gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031337, and it covers 330 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,105 people in Nangal Khanauran: 553 men and 552 women, living in 251 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 330 hectares, the population density works out to about 335 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 998 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 118, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 305 people, about 28 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 90.17 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 94.67 per cent and women at 85.77 per cent. The census recorded 216 workers, about 20 per cent of the village. Of the 143 main workers, the largest group, 101, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 18 cultivators on their own land and 12 agricultural labourers. A further 73 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
