Where is Ransota?

Ransota is a village in Mukerian tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and is served by the Ransota-228 gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031042, and it covers 106 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 865 people in Ransota: 444 men and 421 women, living in 166 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 106 hectares, the population density works out to about 816 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 948 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 98, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 228 people, about 26 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 89.7 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 94.83 per cent and women at 84.47 per cent. The census recorded 257 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. A further 16 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
