Where is Saido?

Saido is a village of Mukerian tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and is served by the Saido Patti Kaler gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031255, and it covers 180 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 976 people in Saido: 484 men and 492 women, living in 205 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 180 hectares, the population density works out to about 542 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1017 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 92, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 151 people, about 15 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.18 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90 per cent and women at 80.41 per cent. The census recorded 268 workers, about 27 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from canals (40 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (59 hectares). About 14 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
