Where is Abadgarh?

Abadgarh is a village in Pathankot tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Pathankot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027517, and it covers 242 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,482 people in Abadgarh: 751 men and 731 women, living in 318 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 242 hectares, the population density works out to about 612 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 973 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 160, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 235 people, about 16 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.02 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.13 per cent and women at 79.79 per cent. The census recorded 610 workers, about 41 per cent of the village. A further 357 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
