The 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 19 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Narot Jaimal Singh community development block and has its own gram panchayat. The 2011 census counted 1,780 people in Kharkhara Thuthowala: 960 men and 820 women, living in 336 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household.
