Thara Jhikla is a village in Dhar Kalan tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhar Kalan community development block and is served by the Bhadan, Thara Jhikla, Matti gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027396, and it covers 2,041 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,624 people in Thara Jhikla: 1,907 men and 1,717 women, living in 667 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 2,041 hectares, the population density works out to about 178 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 477, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 817 people, about 23 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.04 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.22 per cent and women at 76.59 per cent. The census recorded 1,235 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 825 main workers, the largest group, 543, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 220 cultivators on their own land and 32 household industry workers.
