Where is Thara Uparla?

Thara Uparla is a village in Dhar Kalan tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhar Kalan community development block and is served by the Dalla gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027395, and it covers 1,897 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,769 people in Thara Uparla: 2,055 men and 1,714 women, living in 969 households, an average of about 3.9 people per household. Spread over its 1,897 hectares, the population density works out to about 199 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 834 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 307, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 868 people, about 23 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.34 per cent and women at 74.2 per cent. The census recorded 1,105 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 1,008 main workers, the largest group, 806, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 127 agricultural labourers and 48 cultivators on their own land. A further 97 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
