Where is Pahar Kalan?

Pahar Kalan is a village in Rajpura tehsil of Patiala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Rajpura, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Rajpura community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037019, and it covers 192 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,078 people in Pahar Kalan: 580 men and 498 women, living in 193 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 192 hectares, the population density works out to about 561 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 859 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 121, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 318 people, about 29 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.22 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.98 per cent and women at 71.9 per cent. The census recorded 344 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 330 main workers, the largest group, 191, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 86 agricultural labourers and 53 cultivators on their own land. A further 14 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
