Where is Batauli?

Batauli is a village of Dera Bassi tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dera Bassi, about 17 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dera Bassi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039257, and it covers 261 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,305 people in Batauli: 690 men and 615 women, living in 237 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 261 hectares, the population density works out to about 500 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 891 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 128, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 725 people, about 56 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.97 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.76 per cent and women at 74.69 per cent. The census recorded 390 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (150 hectares). About 17 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
