Jaula kalan is a village of Dera Bassi tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dera Bassi, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dera Bassi community development block and is served by the Jaula Kalan gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039291, and it covers 703 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,817 people in Jaula kalan: 949 men and 868 women, living in 336 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 703 hectares, the population density works out to about 258 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 915 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 215, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 301 people, about 17 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.28 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.07 per cent and women at 68.9 per cent.
