Where is Jastana Khurd?

Jastana Khurd is a village in Dera Bassi tehsil of SAS Nagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dera Bassi, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dera Bassi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039282, and it covers 229 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,118 people in Jastana Khurd: 569 men and 549 women, living in 175 households, an average of about 6.4 people per household. Spread over its 229 hectares, the population density works out to about 488 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 965 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 145, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 220 people, about 20 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 80.16 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.46 per cent and women at 73.64 per cent. The census recorded 357 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 339 main workers, the largest group, 128, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 122 other workers in trade, transport and services and 82 agricultural labourers. A further 18 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Malakpur, Jastana Kalan, Jaula Khurd and Dharamgarh.
