Where is Chakli Shujat?

Chakli Shujat is a village of Nawanshahr tehsil in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Rahon, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nawanshahr community development block and is served by the Chakli Shujait gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032304, and it covers 204 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 602 people in Chakli Shujat: 313 men and 289 women, living in 127 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 204 hectares, the population density works out to about 295 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 923 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 59, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 398 people, about 66 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 74.4 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 83.87 per cent and women at 64.39 per cent. The census recorded 234 workers, about 39 per cent of the village. Of the 201 main workers, the largest group, 111, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 54 agricultural labourers and 36 cultivators on their own land. A further 33 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
