A United States federal court has sentenced 60-year-old Parampreet Singh of Davis, California to 10 years in prison and ordered him to forfeit $2 million, for leading a drug-trafficking conspiracy that moved cocaine, heroin, opium and ketamine between the United States and Canada.

What the court decided

US District Judge John A. Mendez handed down the sentence in Sacramento, the US Attorney's office for the Eastern District of California announced. Singh pleaded guilty on September 9, 2025 to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute the four drugs. Prosecutors said he was the leader and organizer of the conspiracy.

How the ring worked

Singh and his co-defendants arranged the deals from California using encrypted cellphone apps, according to court documents. Between October 2020 and April 2021 they coordinated sales to undercover officers totalling about 10 kilograms of cocaine, 1.5 kilograms of opium, 2 kilograms of ketamine and multiple samples of heroin, generating 637,600 Canadian dollars and 75,190 US dollars in deals in Canada and Sacramento. In the same period they repeatedly offered to sell up to 100 kilograms of cocaine, 25 kilograms of heroin, 100 kilograms of opium and 200 kilograms of ketamine.

Who else was in the case

Ranvir Singh, 43, of Sacramento was found guilty by a jury on October 15, 2025 of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and ketamine and one count of distribution of cocaine. He is to be sentenced on December 1, 2026 and faces up to life in prison. Amandeep Multani, 38, of Roseville pleaded guilty on December 13, 2022 and agreed to cooperate fully; he was sentenced to time served on December 10, 2025 after more than four years and eight months in custody.

The investigation

The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the York Regional Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Canada, and the Placer County Special Investigations Unit. The case was prosecuted as part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative against transnational criminal organizations.
