Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled an alleged drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling network, arresting three men and recovering 10 pistols, 1.022 kg of heroin and a motorcycle, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Monday. The weapons seized include three 9mm Glock pistols and seven .30 bore pistols, a haul police described as a significant catch on the eve of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's October 20 visit to Punjab, which is focused on the state's drug and gangster problem.

Police named the accused as Gautam alias Ajay, 28, a bouncer from Sensra Khurd village; Ravi Sher Singh, 22, from Guru Ka Bagh village; and Rajbir Singh alias Raja, 24, from Basarke Bhaini village, currently living at Pal Avenue. All three are from the Amritsar Rural area. Punjab Newsline reported, citing police records, that Rajbir Singh faces five earlier cases under the NDPS Act and Gautam faces two cases under the Arms Act. The men are accused, not convicted, and the allegations will be tested in court.

Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said police teams acted on actionable intelligence and first arrested Gautam and Ravi Sher Singh in the Cantonment police station area, recovering two Glock pistols and the motorcycle from them. During sustained questioning, and on information provided by Gautam, police recovered seven more pistols, taking the total seizure to 10 weapons alongside the heroin. A case has been registered at the Cantonment police station.

DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation showed the accused were in contact with foreign-based smugglers who supplied illegal weapons for onward distribution to criminal elements. Punjab Newsline reported that police suspect the men used Instagram to make contact and coordinate supplies, and that the network may have links to smugglers based in Pakistan. Police stressed those cross-border links are still being investigated. Officers are now working to trace the network's forward and backward linkages, identify the source of the weapons and heroin, and find anyone else involved.

The bust is separate from an earlier Amritsar drone arms module case in which five men were held with a rifle and grenades. Monday's arrests add to a series of weapons and drug seizures Punjab Police have announced in recent weeks, as the state government faces sustained political pressure over drugs and gang violence ahead of Shah's visit.
