Jhota Murder: Accused's House Demolished in Mansa, Crowd Torches His Shop

Hours after chemist Ashwani Kumar was arrested from Rajasthan's Salasar for shooting dead anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, the Mansa administration on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, demolished what it called illegal structures at his house, and a crowd set his shop on fire, India Today and ANI reported.
What happened at the accused's house in Mansa?
Heavy police deployment accompanied a bulldozer drive at the accused's residence. Mansa SSP Vaibhav Choudhary told ANI police were there to maintain law and order, that there was an input about illegal construction, and that the administration was acting on it. A crowd gathered outside his shop later set it ablaze, according to ANI footage.
What did protesters say?
A Nihang Sikh speaking to ANI warned that places linked to drug peddling would meet the same fate. He urged youth to back jailed Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh. These are his claims, not police findings.
Were people stopped from reaching Mansa?
Manjit Kaur, a relative of an incarcerated aide of Amritpal Singh, told ANI that police detained her at Tarn Taran for nearly three hours to stop her from visiting Mansa. Police have not been quoted on this in the reports seen.
What is the investigation status?
Police have said preliminary findings point to personal enmity. NHRC has sought an action taken report and asked the chief secretary to protect people working against drug abuse. Jhota's father has appealed to the Prime Minister and Home Minister for his grandchildren's security.
Why was the accused's house demolished?
The administration says the action targeted illegal construction. Critics may link it to the killing; officials have not said so.
