The Punjab government will organise a statewide mega parent-teacher meeting (PTM) on October 9 across nearly 19,200 government primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools in all 23 districts, with approximately 25 lakh parents expected to participate. October 9 will be observed as a non-study day in government schools, so that parents and teachers can meet without classes being disrupted.

What is the theme of the mega PTM?

The PTM is being held under the theme "Har Din, Ik Kadam Agge" (decisive action for every child). Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the mega PTM is an opportunity to sit with teachers, build the future of every child, and make Punjab's schools number one in the world. "When schools and families take that next step together, our children gain the confidence to lead and excel globally," he said.

What will parents and teachers discuss?

During individual meetings, teachers will share each child's report card and discuss classroom performance, attendance, strengths and areas for improvement. Teachers and parents will then formulate individualised action plans tailored to each child's specific learning needs. Parents can also ask questions and discuss simple ways to support their child's learning at home, and schools will create awareness about student-support initiatives.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the focus is on dedicated, individual attention for every child and customised learning roadmaps. "Har Din, Ik Kadam Agge is not merely a promise, but a decisive action on the ground to nurture each student's potential," he said.

What preparations were made?

School Management Committee (SMC) members will help schools reach parents and encourage attendance, and SMC members will be recognised for the time and effort they contribute to schools. Mega meetings of the committees were scheduled for October 7, during which members were to identify school-level problems and requirements — including cleanliness, drinking water and maintenance of school premises — and prepare action plans.

Why is this PTM significant?

The initiative is part of Punjab Sikhya Kranti, the state's push to strengthen the connection between schools and families. The government says the exercise further cements Punjab's position as the leading state in school education in the country, as recognised by the Government of India.
