Shubh: Punjabi Singer & Rapper

Early life

Shubhneet Singh was born on 10 August 1997 in the town of Nangal in Punjab's Rupnagar district, into a Punjabi Sikh family. His elder brother Ravneet Singh is also a performer. Shubh moved to Brampton, Ontario, where his musical career took shape — writing and recording in the heart of Canada's Punjabi diaspora.

Career

Shubh started in 2021 with the single 'We Rollin', followed by 'Elevated' and 'Offshore'. In 2022 he released three singles — 'No Love', 'Baller' and 'Her'. 'Baller', produced with Ikky, became his most-streamed track and entered the Canadian Hot 100 at number 68, a rare feat for a Punjabi independent release.

His debut album Still Rollin arrived in 2023 and charted on the Canadian Albums chart and the New Zealand Albums chart; its song 'Cheques' peaked at number 3 on Billboard India Songs. In 2025 he released the 10-track album Sicario, which debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart with over 250 million streams, and his single 'Supreme' debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 while topping Apple Music in India and Canada.

In 2025 he became the second Punjabi artist, after Diljit Dosanjh, to grace the solo cover of Billboard Canada, and announced his debut North American arena tour — opening at Oakland Arena and closing at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. His catalog has crossed 5 billion streams on Spotify.

Controversy

In September 2023, amid a sharp downturn in India-Canada relations, Shubh posted an Instagram story captioned 'Pray for Punjab' alongside a distorted map of India. Facing accusations of supporting separatism, he deleted the post, but the fallout was swift: electronics brand boAt withdrew its sponsorship of his India tour, and BookMyShow cancelled the multi-city Still Rollin India tour with full refunds to ticket holders. Virat Kohli and other cricketers unfollowed him on social media.

Music style

Shubh's sound blends Punjabi lyrics with trap and modern hip-hop production — minimal, bass-heavy beats built for streaming. His plainspoken delivery and melodies have made him a favorite of Gen-Z Punjabi listeners worldwide.

Legacy

In five years Shubh went from a Brampton bedroom studio to arena tours and a Billboard Canada cover. Whatever one's view of the 2023 controversy, his numbers — billions of streams, chart positions in Canada, India, the UK and New Zealand — place him among the defining Punjabi artists of the streaming era.
