Jassie Gill (born Jasdeep Singh Gill, 26 November 1988) is a Punjabi singer and actor from Jandali village near Khanna, in Ludhiana district. He rose with romantic Punjabi pop such as "Lancer" and "Nikle Currant", turned to films with Mr & Mrs 420 in 2014, and reached Hindi cinema with Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi and Panga.

Early life

Jassie Gill was born in Jandali, a village near Khanna in Ludhiana district, into a Jat family. His father was a farmer and his mother a homemaker, and he grew up as the youngest in a house of educated daughters: his sisters became a doctor, an MBA graduate and an engineer, a story he has told with pride.

At Gobindgarh Public College he chose music and physical education as his practical subjects, and his teachers coached him for youth festivals, where he finished second four times in a row.

Music career

After a short trip to Australia, where he took a car-wash job to pay for studio time, Gill returned home and released his debut album Batchmate in 2011. Its song "Churiyan" announced him. Batchmate 2 followed in January 2013, and its single "Lancer", about a shy middle-class college boy, is the track he credits with making his name.

Over the next decade came "Vigre Sharabi", "Bapu Zimidar", "Guitar Sikhda", "Nikle Currant" with Neha Kakkar (2018) and "Oye Hoye Oye" (2021). Rolling Stone India put him on its September 2021 cover, noting his focus on melody rather than the cars-and-glamour image of Punjabi pop.

Films

Gill made his acting debut in Mr & Mrs 420 (2014) and followed it with Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Mundeyan Ton Bachke Rahin and Channo Kamli Yaar Di, where he starred opposite Neeru Bajwa. He has said that working with Gurdas Maan early in his career taught him humility.

His Hindi debut was Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018). He then played Kangana Ranaut's husband Prashant in Panga (2020), appeared in Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai? (2021), and played Moh in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023). Chandigarh Times ranked him number one on its Most Desirable Men list in 2018 and 2020.

In a September 2026 interview, Gill said he has been visiting Delhi almost twice a week for the last 12 years, and that most of his wedding-season shows are there. He recalled his first Delhi gig in Rohini, where the small crowd left when Honey Singh arrived at the same event, and he walked the ramp as showstopper at Delhi Times Fashion Week.
