Where is Bachhowali?

Bachhowali is a village in Mukerian tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mukerian, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hazipur community development block and is served by the Saroya gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031193, and it covers 64 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 168 people in Bachhowali: 80 men and 88 women, living in 36 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 64 hectares, the population density works out to about 262 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1100 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 16, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 86 people, about 51 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.89 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.5 per cent and women at 78.75 per cent. The census recorded 60 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. Of the 42 main workers, the largest group, 25, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 17 cultivators on their own land. A further 18 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Neighbouring villages include Bariana, Ghalloowal, Waziran and Saroya.
