Where is Jallowal?

Jallowal is a village in Hoshiarpur tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031545, and it covers 228 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,631 people in Jallowal: 837 men and 794 women, living in 354 households, an average of about 4.6 people per household. Spread over its 228 hectares, the population density works out to about 715 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 158, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 544 people, about 33 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 86.08 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 91.52 per cent and women at 80.36 per cent. The census recorded 510 workers, about 31 per cent of the village.
