Mehmowal is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-I community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031557, and it covers 292 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,291 people in Mehmowal: 662 men and 629 women, living in 243 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 292 hectares, the population density works out to about 442 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 950 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 197, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,041 people, about 81 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
