Where is Sasoli?

Sasoli is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031542, and it covers 321 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,282 people in Sasoli: 645 men and 637 women, living in 261 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 321 hectares, the population density works out to about 399 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 988 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 137, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 833 people, about 65 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.48 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.14 per cent and women at 76.76 per cent. The census recorded 384 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 325 main workers, the largest group, 180, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 81 agricultural labourers and 63 cultivators on their own land. A further 59 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
