Where is Cholang?

Cholang is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nurmahal, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Rurka Kalan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030245, and it covers 298 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 435 people in Cholang: 223 men and 212 women, living in 72 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 298 hectares, the population density works out to about 146 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 951 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 53, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 266 people, about 61 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
