Where is Lodhiwal?

Lodhiwal is a village in Sultanpur Lodhi tehsil of Kapurthala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Sultanpur Lodhi, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sultanpur Lodhi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029466, and it covers 104 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 327 people in Lodhiwal: 193 men and 134 women, living in 50 households, an average of about 6.5 people per household. Spread over its 104 hectares, the population density works out to about 314 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 694 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 23, about 7 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 30 people, about 9 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.3 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.34 per cent and women at 73.02 per cent. The census recorded 112 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 72 main workers, the largest group, 49, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 14 agricultural labourers and 5 household industry workers. A further 40 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Lodhiwal's land. Of the village's 104 hectares, 96 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (96 hectares). About 8 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 9 hours a day. With 86 cultivators and 14 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
