Machhi Jowa is a village in Sultanpur Lodhi tehsil of Kapurthala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Sultanpur Lodhi, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sultanpur Lodhi community development block and is served by the Mullan Kala gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029474, and it covers 182 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 667 people in Machhi Jowa: 342 men and 325 women, living in 111 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 182 hectares, the population density works out to about 366 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 950 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 98, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 262 people, about 39 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 72.76 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.3 per cent and women at 66.2 per cent. The census recorded 249 workers, about 37 per cent of the village.
