Where is Ratoke?

Ratoke is a village in Tarn Taran tehsil of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chohla Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037994, and it covers 445 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,228 people in Ratoke: 1,211 men and 1,017 women, living in 369 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 445 hectares, the population density works out to about 501 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 840 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 333, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 488 people, about 22 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 74.46 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.24 per cent and women at 66.4 per cent. The census recorded 768 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 720 main workers, the largest group, 392, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 171 other workers in trade, transport and services and 113 cultivators on their own land. A further 48 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (405 hectares). Farm power supply was recorded at 14 hours a day.
