Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday dedicated 154 new Aam Aadmi Clinics to the people of Punjab at a public rally in Harkhowal village in the Chabbewal area of Hoshiarpur district, taking the state's primary healthcare network to 1,245 clinics. The expansion is the latest round of the government's flagship neighbourhood clinic programme, which offers consultations, medicines and basic tests free of cost.

Where the new clinics have opened

Of the 154 new clinics, the largest share has gone to Amritsar with 36, followed by Patiala with 26, Ludhiana with 17, Gurdaspur with 12, Jalandhar with 11 and SAS Nagar (Mohali) with 10, with the remaining facilities spread across the state's other districts. Mann said the clinics already running in Punjab had strengthened public confidence in government healthcare, drawing around one lakh patient visits a day.

Each clinic provides 107 medicines and 47 types of diagnostic tests free of cost. According to the figures the chief minister shared at the rally, the network has recorded 6.48 crore outpatient visits so far, including 1.98 crore patients treated for specific illnesses and 3.63 crore diagnostic tests conducted free. The government says this has spared poor and middle-class families the cost of private consultations, medicines and laboratory tests for everyday illnesses.

Mann also spoke about the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, the state's health cover scheme, saying health cards have been issued to 54.20 lakh families, each entitled to cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh, and that 8.02 lakh beneficiaries have received treatment under it so far. He said the government had filled thousands of health department posts since 2022 as part of the same push, alongside 70,685 government jobs given on merit across departments.

New announcements for Hoshiarpur

Speaking in Hoshiarpur, the chief minister announced a coaching centre in the district to prepare young people for the Union Public Service Commission examinations closer to home. He said construction has begun on a medical college in Hoshiarpur named after Sri Guru Ravidass Ji, and that the government would work to upgrade the Guru Ravidass Ayurveda University.

A welfare pitch ahead of the political season

Mann framed the clinic expansion as proof that his government's mission is healthcare, education and employment rather than slogan politics, and accused traditional parties of having looted Punjab during their years in power. He cautioned voters that a change of government could put welfare schemes, including the clinics, the health cover and free bus travel for women, at risk, alleging that opposition parties want to shut such programmes down.
