Bharti Singh (born 3 July 1984 in Amritsar, Punjab) is an Indian comedian and television host who shot to fame as second runner-up on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 4 (2008) as the child character Lalli. She went on to anchor Comedy Circus and host India's Got Talent and Dance Deewane, becoming one of India's highest-paid TV comedians.

Bharti Singh was born on 3 July 1984 in Amritsar, Punjab, into a Punjabi family. Her father died when she was two years old, she has said he suffered from cholera and that she has no memory of him at all. Her mother, Kamla Singh, raised Bharti and her two older siblings alone, working as a house help to keep the family going. Few people know that before comedy, Bharti was a sportswoman: she took part in NCC camps and competed in archery and pistol shooting at the national level. She graduated from BBK DAV College for Women in Amritsar.

How did Bharti Singh become famous?

Bharti Singh became famous in 2008 on the fourth season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Performing as 'Lalli', a mischievous child with pigtails and a cheeky grin, she combined physical comedy with deadpan timing and finished as second runner-up. Though she did not win, she walked out as the season's breakout star, the rare woman to crack the boys' club of Indian stand-up. The character Lalli became so loved that children across India still recognise her by it.

Comedy Circus years

Comedy Circus made her a household name. Across the show's many seasons from 2009 to 2013, Bharti proved herself the most versatile performer on stage, playing children, aunties and grotesques with a physical commitment her competitors struggled to match. Her Comedy Circus years redefined what a woman could do in Indian television comedy: where female comedians had long been cast as the joke, she became the joker. She won the Indian Television Academy Award for Best Actress in a Comic Role in 2012 for Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe, and the People's Choice Award for Favorite Actress – Comedy the same year.

TV stardom and the hosting crown

After Comedy Circus, Bharti conquered almost every corner of Indian television. She co-hosted Comedy Nights Bachao (2015–2017) with Krishna Abhishek, joined The Kapil Sharma Show (2017–2022) in a string of memorable roles including Titli Yadav, and in 2019 fronted Khatra Khatra Khatra, a stunt-comedy show she conceptualised with her husband for Colors TV. She has also appeared in films, including Khiladi 786 (2012), Sanam Re (2016) and the Punjabi Jatt & Juliet 2. Along the way she became a regular reality-show contestant: Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 (2012, 5th place), Nach Baliye 8 (2017, 7th place), Khatron Ke Khiladi 9 (2019, 6th place) and Khatron Ke Khiladi – Made in India (2020, 4th place).

Then she did what few comedians manage: she became television's most in-demand host. She hosted India's Got Talent (seasons 5–7 and 8), India's Best Dancer (2020), Dance Deewane (seasons 3 and 4), Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan (2022) and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs (2022). Since 2024 she has presented Laughter Chefs – Unlimited Entertainment, season 1 (June–October 2024), season 2 (January–July 2025) and season 3 (November 2025–July 2026), alongside judge Harpal Singh Sokhi, and in 2026 she began hosting the Indian Game Show. Her warmth with contestants, especially children, became her trademark.

Awards and recognition

Bharti's trophy shelf tells the story of a two-decade reign. After her 2012 ITA and People's Choice wins, she took the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Comic Role (Jury) in 2014 for Comedy Circus Ke Mahabali. In 2019 she won both the Indian Telly Award for Entertainer of the Year and the ITA Award for Best Actress in a Comic Role for The Kapil Sharma Show. She went on to win the ITA for Best Actress in a Comic Role (Popular) in 2021 and 2022, again in 2023 for Favvara Chowk, and the Indian Telly Award for Entertainment Personality of the Year in 2025. She has also appeared on the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list since 2016, ranking 74th in 2018 and 82nd in 2019 with reported earnings of ₹10.92 crore.

Personal life

Bharti married writer Haarsh Limbachiyaa on 3 December 2017, after the two worked together on the comedy circuit. Their first son, Laksh, nicknamed Gola, was born on 3 April 2022. A second son was born on 19 December 2025, named Yashveer at a namkaran ceremony in January 2026 and nicknamed Kaju at home. The couple's YouTube channels, Bharti TV and Life of Limbachiyaas, are among India's most-watched family vlogs. In November 2020 the Narcotics Control Bureau searched her residence and recovered 86.5 grams of cannabis; she and her husband were questioned and granted bail on 23 November 2020.

Legacy

Bharti Singh changed the economics and the imagination of Indian comedy. She proved that a woman from Amritsar, armed with nothing but timing and fearlessness, could become the centre of prime-time television, and, by most measures, the highest-paid woman in Indian comedy. Her appeal crosses demographics in a way few comics manage: children love Lalli, mothers love the host of Dance Deewane, and the industry respects the professional who turned a two-minute audition character into a twenty-year career. Her story, a father lost at two, national medals in shooting, then comedy stardom, remains one of the most unlikely rises in Indian television.
