Dosanjh Kalan is a village in Phillaur tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Goraya, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030175, and it covers 503 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,883 people in Dosanjh Kalan: 1,933 men and 1,950 women, living in 861 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 503 hectares, the population density works out to about 772 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1009 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 389, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,773 people, about 46 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.83 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.41 per cent and women at 78.27 per cent. The census recorded 1,245 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 1,202 main workers, the largest group, 769, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 244 cultivators on their own land and 160 agricultural labourers. A further 43 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Health facilities recorded inside the village in 2011 included a primary health sub-centre and a veterinary hospital. Drinking water came from untreated tap water supplies. The village had its own post office. It also had a PDS ration shop, mobile phone coverage and an internet common service centre. Phillaur, the tehsil headquarters, and Jalandhar town, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Nanu Mazara, Kotli Khakhian, Lehal and Jajo Mazara.
