Where is Dullar?

Dullar is a village in Samana tehsil of Patiala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Samana, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Samana community development block and is served by the Dular gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036195, and it covers 346 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,254 people in Dullar: 644 men and 610 women, living in 240 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 346 hectares, the population density works out to about 362 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 947 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 165, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 543 people, about 43 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 65.29 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.3 per cent and women at 57.97 per cent. The census recorded 451 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. A further 80 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Dullar's land. Of the village's 346 hectares, 324 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and every sown hectare was irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (272 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (52 hectares). About 22 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. The census recorded 132 cultivators and 186 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.
