Amrit Maan: Bambiha Bole singer

Amrit Maan is a Punjabi singer, songwriter and actor from Goniana Mandi in Bathinda district, Punjab, who first made his name writing hit songs for other stars, including Diljit Dosanjh's Jatt Fire Karda and Born To Shine. His own singing debut, Desi Da Drum in 2015, launched a run of hits that peaked with Bambiha Bole, his 2020 duet with Sidhu Moose Wala, which topped both the UK Asian and UK Punjabi charts.

Early life and an engineering degree

Amrit Maan was born on 10 June 1992 in Goniana Mandi, a town in Bathinda district in the Malwa region of Punjab, into a Sikh family in which both his parents were teachers. He has a younger brother, Lovejot Maan. Schooling in Bathinda was followed by serious study: he completed a master's degree in technology, an MTech in software engineering, at the Swami Vivekananda Institute of Engineering and Technology at Ramnagar, near Banur in Mohali district.

College was also where the performer appeared. He anchored, danced and sang at annual fests, wrote songs as a hobby, and on a friend's encouragement sang one of his own compositions at a college function, where the response convinced him that music could be a career rather than a pastime.

The songwriter first: Jatt Fire Karda and Born To Shine

Maan entered the industry holding a pen rather than a microphone. He started his career in 2014 as a songwriter, and his breakthrough came when Diljit Dosanjh sang his Jatt Fire Karda in 2015, a major hit that put the young writer's name in demand. He wrote Yaar Jundi De for Ammy Virk, Budhwaar for Gippy Grewal's film Faraar, and songs for Jazzy B and Jass Bajwa. His songwriting credit that travels furthest is Born To Shine, written for Diljit Dosanjh's 2020 album G.O.A.T., one of the biggest Punjabi albums of its year. The writing credits kept stacking up in between: Haan Kargi, Etwaar for Jazzy B, Peg Laune Aa and 2 Seater for Gippy Grewal, and Follow for Inder Chahal, until the lyricist from Goniana Mandi was one of the first calls a star made when an album needed a hit.

What made Amrit Maan a star in his own voice?

His own debut single, Desi Da Drum in 2015, answered that question immediately: the writer could sing his own lines. Kaali Camaro followed in 2016, and Bamb Jatt, a duet with Jasmine Sandlas, in 2017. Peg Di Washna, Trending Nakhra, Difference and German Gun kept the run going, and his handlebar moustache and full beard became one of the most copied looks in Punjabi pop.

Between the landmarks came the steady catalogue that built his live draw: Muchh Te Mashook, Shikaar with Jazzy B and Kaur B, which won the Best Duo/Group award at the PTC Punjabi Music Awards 2017, Sach Te Supna, Akh Da Nishana, and film songs such as Lalkara for Channa Mereya and Logo Muchh De for Laung Laachi. Mithi Mithi, another duet with Jasmine Sandlas, reached number 2 on the UK Asian chart in 2019, and songs like Maa and Bapu showed the sentimental register underneath the swagger.

The peak came in 2020 with Bambiha Bole, recorded with Sidhu Moose Wala and released on Moose Wala's own label. The song reached number 1 on both the UK Asian and UK Punjabi charts and number 10 in New Zealand, a marker of how completely the Bathinda writer-singer had crossed into the global Punjabi mainstream. His first album, All Bamb, arrived in 2021, followed by the EP Xpensive in 2022, and later songs such as Sira E Hou with Nimrat Khaira kept him on the charts.

Acting: Channa Mereya to Babbar

Maan's film debut came in 2017 with Channa Mereya, in which he played the negative role of Balli Dhillon. The performance earned him a nomination for Best Debut Actor at the Filmfare Awards Punjabi and for Best Negative Role at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards, a rare double recognition for a first film. He played the singer Jagtaar Maan in Laung Laachi in 2018, appeared with Neeru Bajwa in Aate Di Chidi, and featured in Do Dooni Panj in 2019.

In 2022 he took the lead role of Zorawar in the action film Babbar. In 2025 his voice reached a Hindi film audience when he sang and wrote the Jaat Theme Song for the Bollywood film Jaat, composed by S. Thaman. From Goniana Mandi to two industries, Maan's career rests on the same foundation: he writes the songs himself.
