Early life

Sargun Mehta was born on 6 September 1988 in Chandigarh, India. She schooled at Sacred Heart Convent and Carmel Convent in Chandigarh and graduated in commerce from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. She acted in college theatre, began a master's in business management, then left it to take a role in the television serial 12/24 Karol Bagh and moved to Mumbai.

Chandigarh's convent schools and Delhi University's Kirori Mal College gave Sargun Mehta a solid middle-class education, and college theatre gave her the stage bug. She was studying for a master's in business management when the call came for 12/24 Karol Bagh — she left the degree, took the role, and moved to Mumbai. Mehta's screen debut came in 2009 with 12/24 Karol Bagh, followed by notable television roles in Phulwa (2011-12), Kya Huaa Tera Vaada (2012-13) and Balika Vadhu (2013-14). She made her film debut with the 2015 Punjabi period romance Angrej, playing Dhann Kaur — the performance won her the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actress and made the film the year's second-highest-grossing Punjabi release.

Her portrayals in Love Punjab (2016) and Lahoriye (2017) won her two Filmfare Awards Punjabi for Best Actress. She went on to headline the romantic dramas Qismat (2018) and Qismat 2 (2021), played a beautician in Surkhi Bindi (2019), and made her Hindi film debut as a police officer in Cuttputlli (2022). With her husband Ravi Dubey, she runs the production house Dreamiyata.
